Kathmandu, September 21, 2026: Nepal Police has announced a new recruitment drive for 334 vacant positions under the Janapad Police Group, inviting applications from eligible Nepali citizens through an open competitive examination and inclusive recruitment system.

The recruitment notice was published for the first time on September 18, 2026 (2083/06/02) by the Human Resource Development Department, Career Development Directorate, Recruitment Selection Branch of Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, Kathmandu.
According to the notice, vacancies have been announced for Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (Janapad) and several categories of Police Office Assistants. The recruitment process has been designed to include both open competition and various inclusive groups.
334 Positions Open for Recruitment ASI
The largest number of vacancies is for the post of Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (Janapad), with 211 positions available. Of these, 114 seats are under the open category, while the remaining positions have been allocated under different inclusive categories, including women, indigenous groups, Madhesi, Dalit, backward areas and families of martyrs or disabled police personnel.
Similarly, Nepal Police has announced 83 vacancies for Police Office Assistant (Cook), 15 vacancies for Police Office Assistant (Barber) and 25 vacancies for Police Office Assistant (Cleaner).
Altogether, the recruitment notice covers 334 positions across these four categories.
Application Period
Candidates interested in the Police Assistant Sub-Inspector position can submit their applications online from September 28, 2026 (2083/06/12) to October 27, 2026 (2083/07/10) through the Nepal Police Online Recruitment Management System (ORMS).
Applications for Police Office Assistant positions will also be accepted from September 28 to October 27, 2026, during official office hours.
The notice specifies that applications for Assistant Sub-Inspector positions must be submitted online, while applicants for Police Office Assistant positions are required to appear in person at the designated registration centers.
Applicants can access the online recruitment system through the Nepal Police website or the dedicated recruitment portal. The notice directs candidates to complete the online registration process and upload the required documents before submitting their applications.
Application Fees
Candidates applying for the Police Assistant Sub-Inspector position must pay an application fee of Rs. 500. Applicants seeking to compete in more than one inclusive group will have to pay an additional 20 percent of the basic fee, equivalent to Rs. 100 for each additional group.
For Police Office Assistant positions, the application fee is Rs. 200, with an additional Rs. 40 for each additional group when applicable.
Applicants submitting online forms can pay the required fee through the designated online payment systems, including ConnectIPS, eSewa, Khalti and IME Pay. Offline payment can also be made through the designated banking process using the prescribed voucher and transaction code.
Age Requirements
For the Police Assistant Sub-Inspector position, applicants must have completed 18 years of age but must not have crossed 24 years by the final date for submitting the application.
However, the age limit is extended to 35 years for eligible serving non-gazetted police personnel who have completed the required basic police training. Separate provisions also apply to serving classless police personnel under the Police Regulations.
For Police Office Assistant positions, applicants must be at least 18 years old and must not have exceeded 25 years by the final application date.
Educational and Physical Requirements
Candidates applying for the Police Assistant Sub-Inspector position must have completed the Certificate Level or equivalent qualification from a recognized university or educational institution.
The recruitment notice also sets physical requirements. Male candidates must have a minimum height of 5 feet 2 inches, chest measurement of 31–33 inches and weight of at least 50 kilograms. Female candidates must have a minimum height of 5 feet and weight of at least 42 kilograms.
The notice also includes eyesight and medical requirements. Candidates must not have eyesight weaker than minus two or plus two and must obtain the required health certification during the recruitment process.
For Police Office Assistant positions, candidates need to have basic literacy skills. Male applicants must have a minimum height of five feet, chest measurement of 31–33 inches and weight of at least 50 kilograms. Female applicants must have a minimum height of four feet 10 inches and weight of at least 42 kilograms.
Required Documents
Applicants are required to submit several documents along with their applications. These include a Nepali citizenship certificate, educational qualification certificates and other documents required for inclusive categories.
Online applicants must scan and upload the required original documents in the prescribed PDF format. Photographs, signatures, fingerprints and both sides of the citizenship certificate must also be uploaded in the specified JPG format.
Candidates applying under indigenous, Madhesi, Dalit, backward-area or martyr/disabled police family categories must submit the relevant documents establishing their eligibility under the respective inclusive group.
Selection Process
The recruitment process will involve several stages. For the Police Assistant Sub-Inspector position, candidates will have to undergo:
- Preliminary health examination
- Physical fitness test
- Detailed health examination
- Written examination
- Practical examination
- Special health examination
- Competency test and interview
The written examination will be conducted by the Public Service Commission at designated examination centers. The notice states that 20 percent of the marks allocated to a multiple-choice question will be deducted for an incorrect answer.
The preliminary health and physical fitness examinations for Assistant Sub-Inspector candidates will be conducted at the relevant application collection centers. The detailed health examination will take place at locations designated by the respective examination centers, while the special health examination will be conducted at Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajgunj. Competency tests and interviews will be conducted at Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal.
Regional Examination Centers
Nepal Police has designated examination and application centers across the country. Candidates applying for the Assistant Sub-Inspector position can register through police training centers in the seven provinces as well as the Kathmandu Valley Police School in Maharajgunj.
The designated centers include training centers in Biratnagar, Janakpur/Rajbiraj, Dudhhauli, Pokhara, Butwal, Nepalgunj and Dipayal, along with the Kathmandu Valley Police School.
For Police Office Assistant applicants, applications can also be submitted through designated district police offices and related police offices. Examination locations are assigned according to the application registration center and the districts covered by each center.
Specialized Work Categories for Office Assistants
The recruitment notice has also specified specialized areas of work for Police Office Assistants.
Candidates applying for these positions must select one specialized work area according to their interest and ability. The available categories include Cook, Barber and Cleaner.
Police cooks will be responsible for preparing food in police messes and maintaining cleanliness in kitchens and utensils. Barbers will perform haircutting duties for police personnel, while cleaners will be responsible for cleaning offices, toilets, bathrooms and surrounding compounds.

Important Examination Information
Nepal Police has stated that the schedule for the preliminary health examination and physical fitness test will be published on October 29, 2026 (2083/07/20) through the relevant police offices and the official Nepal Police website.
Candidates are required to bring their admission card and original citizenship certificate when appearing for each stage of the examination. Results will be published after each stage, and only candidates who successfully pass one stage will be permitted to participate in the next stage.
The notice also states that candidates participating in the preliminary health and physical fitness examination must have short hair showing both ears, a requirement specified for male candidates.
